7 Steps to Having a Killer 21st Birthday in 2020 (but not a deadly one)

Posted inBirthday Light Up Numbers

We all know that so far, 2020 hasn’t been the best year for fierce celebrations, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t dazzle people on your birthday. With just a little bit of creativity (and this handy blog!) we’re going to show you how to have a safe and GLAMOUROUS 21st.

Step 1. Location, Location, Location

Step 2. Themes

Step 3. Decorations

Step 4. Food

Step 5. The Look

Step 6. The Guest List

Step 7. Party Paparazzi

Step 1. Location, location, location

Location is the first thing you need to take into consideration, especially currently, since you cannot be loading guests into a house party or going to clubs.

Spring Table with guests

Spring has arrived very quickly this year, meaning there’s no need to host your event indoors!  A garden party can be easily dressed up whether it is at an expensive venue or in a large backyard. It is a great way to ensure everyone has plenty of space and a gorgeous view.

You can leverage that outdoorsy, nature-loving, garden gala style that comes with oh-so-gorgeous gardens, or mix it up for a completely different vibe. Don’t forget just because it’s outdoors doesn’t mean it has to be a day time exclusive event, hang some lights and play some music once the sun goes down to keep the good time going.

Step 2. Theme

Steam Punk Party Theme

The theme is essential for establishing what vibes you want for your event. It can be as broad as a colour motif or as exact as an 80s night. The theme can be used for decorating directions or as a reference for your guests! Some popular theme ideas that shouldn’t be hard for all your guests to get into include:

Steampunk

Cocktail Party

Cottagecore

Wine and Cheese Tasting

Tropical Island Getaway

Music Festival

For more ideas, consider your favourite TV Shows or apps, but make sure it isn’t too niche, so everyone at the party can join in.

Step 3. Decorations

Let's Decorate Gif

Now that we have our theme, we have our guidelines for the decorations, and this is truly where the magic happens. There are so many ways to make the place sparkle, through adding balloons and fairy lights to giant statement pieces such as light up letters.

Standing at 1.2 or 1.5 metres tall, these beauties could be almost as tall as you. They offer AMAZINNG photo opportunities and are sure to attract positive attention to your event. You can even get them delivered in your preferred colour to match your chosen theme.

Accenting theses with balloons or flowers creates an incredibly thought out look with little effort on your part. On top of this, you can make the most of the nature around you or add flower walls and photo booths to really amp up the style. Don’t forget the food and refreshment table is also a part of the decorations if you do it right.

Step 4. Food

To keep your guests moving around finger food is your best bet. Grazing platters are highly versatile and offer beautiful aesthetics, best of all they are easy to create whether you are opting for catering or creating one yourself. Another stunning set up you can present is high tea with petit desserts and scones. Of course, if all else fails, a pizza party never ceases to amaze hungry guests.

Step 5. The Look

You won’t feel your best on the night without your best look, so whether you wear the iconic strawberry dress and mask combo or a smart pantsuit (by Lirika Matoshi), make sure you feel comfortable and confident in your OOTD before you commit! Most importantly of all, if you decide to wear heels, don’t forget to pack a pair of flats in your bag so that the night doesn’t have to end when your feet get sore.

Step 6. The Guest List

Did I make the Guest List?

Unfortunately, due to restrictions, you may not be able to invite as many guests as you might like, with a maximum of 30 people in non- residencies. This means you have to make tough choices! For the good of the party, we recommend choosing people who will fully embrace the night and the theme with you before you start to add plus ones out of obligation.

Step 7. Party Paparazzi

Party Paparazzi

Finally, to make sure you can truly enjoy your night after all the time and effort you’ve put into it, make sure you aren’t stressing over your photo ops. If you can, hire a photographer to capture the night, or just ask some of your best friends with good camera’s to make sure they take some candids throughout the event. Another good idea is to take photo’s early in the event, so you don’t have to worry about damaging your hair or makeup while you’re busy having a good time.

Party Time!

Remember, the aim of the party is for you to have a good time, so organise it in any way that makes you feel happiest. Don’t forget to stay safe, practice social distancing at all events and wear a mask if you can.
